It’s wild card Sunday in the NFL, a frigid cold January 10th 2010. There’s an advertisement running on TV saying that there are 100,000 homeless children in the peoples republic of Massachusetts.
I scratch my head in awe and wonder how in the richest society in the history of earth, in a state that house’s more centers of higher learning per square inch than anywhere in the know world can people eat pizza, watch reality TV and go to bed and sleep soundly when children, real warm blooded American children are sleeping on the streets.
Surely homeless children is a notion from movies set in Brazil or Bombay or South Africa, not here, not in the USA, not in Massachusetts the liberal conscience of America.
But yes, children are homeless in Massachusetts. And while we fret about the economy and throw billions at the bank, we live in a reality where mere crumbs from the table where the lobyiest sit to bribe our elected officials would ensure that homeless children where warm on the eve of Play Off Sunday.
This on the same day that MSNBC is running an article informing us that someone has just paid $3.7 million dollars for a Nickel. Makes you wonder doesn’t it. 100,000 kids sleeping out in 16 degree weather, that’s 16 degrees below freezing without any wind chill factor and some person has the audacity to pay 3.7 million for a Nickel, not even a dime but a Nickel.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that while the children of Massachusetts are freezing their tails off the proverbial Nickel will be resting comfortably in climate controlled conditions lest its pretty little butt should get damage.
Call me a commie if you want but karma is one hell of a bitch and when the sleeping giant that is the dispossessed masses of the USA finally get tired of eating cake and wake up from the American Nightmare there will be hell to pay.
